Frequency Band

At present there are two types of frequency bands in routers . 5 HHz and 2.4 GHz  . Some of routers are only use one frequency band but some of them use both of frequency for routing .

The two (2) types of frequencies that Linksys dual-band routers support are 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz.

The 5 GHz band has a shorter range compared to a 2.4 GHz band because in radio frequencies, the higher the frequency the shorter its range.  In other words, if you are using a lower frequency like the 2.4 GHz, the distance it will cover will be greater than the 5 GHz band.

Encryption Algorithm (For Router Security)

Encryption algorithm is the key feature of router security . A router with weak encryption algorithm can be cracked easily . So you have to check this encryption type of your router .When you assign your wireless router with a key and assign an encryption method, it will scramble the data and only a laptop with the same key can unscramble that data.

Each router has a priori knowledge only of networks attached to it directly. A routing protocol shares this information first among immediate neighbors, and then throughout the network. This way, routers gain knowledge of the topology of the network.

802.11 n–> this supports both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands and we can have either 20Mhz or 40Mhz(only with a radio).
